Fay Stevens
Fay Stevens is an award winning and experienced lecturer in archaeology at Oxford OUDCE, OUSSA and other UK and International Universities. She is currently completing a PhD in archaeology and specialises in material culture studies, theoretical and landscape archaeology. Current research on the human body is revealing insight into the mobility and cultural lifeways of ancient people. We focus on Bronze Age Europe and consider the range of archaeological evidence that offers new understandings on the fluidity of people.
We have much to learn from the antiquarians about ancient sites and archaeological landscapes. John Aubrey, William Stukeley and Stonehenge and Avebury will be our primary case studies. We also consider and compare other antiquarians and ancient sites.
The art of prehistoric Europe is rich with imagery such as cave paintings, carvings, body ornamentation and frescoes. This course considers a range of sites and artefacts in our exploration of the unique and creative ways people visualised their world.
