Education and study skills

Study skills programmes for educators and lifelong learners: perhaps you're a teacher looking to progress your career, and improve your classroom and online teaching techniques; or you might be a prospective student looking to enter or re-enter education after a period away. Whatever your situation, we offer a range of short courses to suit your needs.

Short courses in study skills

Our study skills courses assist those who are entering or re-entering education to prepare for study. Popular topics include presentation skills, research methods and writing skills.

Need help preparing for study? Academic Literacy is an introductory online course for anyone new to higher education, or who hasn't studied for some time. Brush up your reading, note-making and essay-writing skills, and revisit the basic rules of punctuation and grammar.

We also offer our award course students a free preparatory study-skills programme in the autumn.

Professional development for teachers

Online tutoring

Are you looking to move your teaching online? Do you want to improve your existing online teaching?

Our Effective Online Course Design will help you plan and design your own online courses.

Alternatively, improve your online delivery with our practical short course in Effective Online Tutoring, focusing on social, administrative and pedagogical techniques.

English language teachers

Join teachers from across the globe to share best practices and gain a wealth of ideas to use in your own classroom. You'll be taught by experienced international trainers, ELT course leaders and authors of teacher-training publications for OUP, Macmillan, Heinle Cengage and other publishers.

We offer two summer programmes:

  • Oxford Teachers' Academy online courses: a four-week part-time online programme focusing in depth on a specific area of your English language teaching.
  • English Language Teachers' Summer Seminar: a two-week full-time programme immersing you in English-language teaching alongside fellow teachers. You'll live and study at New College, one of Oxford's historic colleges. A full social activity programme is included.
