Oxford College Gardens

Overview

This day event will reflect new work being conducted into the development, significance and wider role of Oxford college gardens since the 16th century.

The college gardens current multifaceted role as a retreat and refuge, as a counterpart to the dense urban grain and as a source of college income will be evaluated.

Particular attention will be paid to the recent research on the gardens at New College (the only college to have retained the basic layout of its 18th century gardens) and University colleges.
