Climate Change: Creative and Hopeful Responses

Overview

Artist/academic Anya Gleizer and climate educator Bill Finnegan invite you on a journey of creativity and hope in the face of the climate crisis. They are the creators of the Museum of Climate Hope, a museum trail and interactive learning experience developed in partnership with the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) and Oxford’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM).

This hands-on, half-day event will explore the psychological, philosophical and theological roots of the concept of hope, and the relationship between hope and climate action. The event will also explore the stories behind the objects in the Museum of Climate Hope, and how they represent the themes of resilience, innovation and transformation.

Anya will then lead an interactive activity in which participants will create art together which will be included in an online gallery.

After the event, participants are encouraged to spend the afternoon visiting the ‘Museum of Climate Hope’ trail for a self-guided tour in their own time.

This event will close to enrolments at 23:59 BST on 9 April 2025.

Speaker

Anya Gleizer is a performance artist and a DPhil candidate in the School of Geography and the Environment in the University of Oxford. Working interdisciplinarily, her art and research practices aim to engage communities emotively with environmental research, and challenge the means and methods with which research itself is performed. In 2022 she, Bill Finnegan and Tina Fawcett began work on the Museum of Climate Hope – a project that unites Oxford museums, libraries and gardens around the themes of environmental resiliency, adaptation and innovation.
