Diane Holmes has been teaching courses on human evolution and Palaeolithic archaeology for OUDCE for many years. Her main interests are Palaeolithic technology and African prehistory, particularly the Middle Stone Age.
Courses
This course explores how cultural and social developments during the later Palaeolithic enabled modern humans to adapt to some of the harsh climatic conditions of northern Eurasia and North America during the last ice age.
How did our species evolve? This course explores some of the key areas of interest in the study of human evolution such as the origins of bipedal locomotion, the discovery of fire, and the evolution of the human brain.
Neanderthals were a cognitively advanced people who made tools and other objects from a great variety of raw materials. This day school explores their technological expertise and other know-how that enabled them to survive in a wide range of environments.
