Advolly Richmond
Advolly Richmond is a plant and social historian with an MA in garden history. She regularly presents garden history features on Gardeners' World television programme and also contributes plant history profiles on the BBC's Gardeners' Question Time.

The rediscovery of ancient literature, art and concepts in the 15th century inspired the creation of Italian renaissance gardens as wonderful spaces for horticultural experiments, secret dalliances, philosophical debate, theatre and political symbolism.
The course of the British landscape garden was as serpentine as the paths and lakes which defined it and along the way different trends developed. The emerging ‘Polite’ landscapes were part of the cultural, economic and social considerations of the time.
