Ryan Kerstein
Ryan serves as a Plastic Surgery Consultant and the Skin Cancer Lead at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust, where he is also the Associate Medical Director for Research and Innovation. In this capacity, Ryan has been pivotal in developing and implementing the Trust’s research and innovation strategy, significantly enhancing collaborative efforts with academic and industry partners. Ryan lead the team’s success bid to be awarded a place on the NHS England Insites programme, recognising leading innovation active trusts. Ryan co-founded the Buckinghamshire Innovation Roundtable, which brings together the regional universities, Local Enterprise Partnership, and blue-chip companies, to share problems and co-develop solutions.
Additionally, he leads the Royal College of Surgeons of England's Future of Surgery Innovation Hub, where he mentors surgical innovators and accelerates the integration of ground-breaking technologies into clinical practice. His leadership in these roles underscores his commitment to advancing the field of plastic surgery through innovation and research.
His academic roles include Senior Tutor in Health Innovation at Oxford University and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the University of Buckingham. Ryan is also the Editor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s Bulletin journal.
Ryan started his innovation journey when he developed Tournistrip, a single use tourniquet which has sold over 75 million tourniquets internationally. As well as being a Non-Executive Director for ASep Healthcare, who commercial Tournistrip, Ryan also mentors healthcare start-ups and scale-up companies.
Ryan is also an ex-BCGer having worked as a consultant on projects in Healthcare, Technology and where these two fields meet. He has worked on projects across sectors, developing skills in strategy, big data analysis and change management.
