Harry Jones
Student spotlight details
Harry studied on our part-time PGCert in Ecological Survey Techniques from his home in Ireland, and found the course extremely beneficial to his career. He is now a Senior Environmental Consultant, specialising in biodiversity.
'Before enrolling on the Postgraduate Certificate I was employed as an Environmental Consultant in a medium sized company in Dublin, Ireland.
'I was inspired to pursue the PGCert as I was working in the field of environment with a strong focus on biodiversity and ecology. I wanted to improve my working knowledge in this area and from some online research I decided that this part-time course best fit my goals, and allowed me to study from my home in Ireland.
'I found the statistics aspect of the course most challenging, but whilst it was quite difficult, I found this very rewarding and hugely applicable to my profession. The in-person teaching week in Oxford was the most enjoyable part of the course. During this short period, I met my fellow classmates and tutor, and got an excellent introduction to GIS, surveying for birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and botanicals.
'I am now working as a Senior Environmental Consultant in Dublin and my speciality is in biodiversity. I have a hybrid role, carrying out ecological surveys, and report writing contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and Ecological Reports.
'If you are interested in breaking into the role of ecology, biodiversity, environmental monitoring or even improving in those areas, then you should seriously consider enrolling on this course. I have found it extremely rewarding and beneficial to my career. The tutelage is fantastic, and I have made some lifelong friendships and connections in the process.'
