Edward Morrison
Student spotlight details
Transitioning from agribusiness to ecological consultancy, Edward used the Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques to fill gaps in his knowledge. He is now working as an environmental consultant based in East Africa.
'Before I enrolled on the PGCert I'd recently left a job in agribusiness and was looking forward to starting a consultancy service.
'I was inspired to pursue the programme as I wanted to update my knowledge of and experience in, applied ecological methods for undertaking survey work as a consultant ecologist. The course offered a comprehensive curriculum that bridged the gap between my previous experience and the new skills I needed to succeed in my consultancy.
'The most challenging part of the Postgraduate Certificate was getting to grips with stats software having not used any during my undergraduate degree. Despite the challenges, the most rewarding and enjoyable experience was the fieldwork project. This hands-on component allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing my practical skills. Additionally, the week in Oxford was particularly memorable. Interacting with other students from a range of backgrounds fostered a collaborative and enriching learning environment.
'I'm now currently working as an environmental consultant, based in East Africa. The skills and knowledge gained from the PGCert have been instrumental in my career. I feel well-equipped to tackle the ecological challenges in this region, contributing to sustainable environmental practices.
'I would say to anyone considering undertaking the PGCert, go for it!! You will be taught by incredible staff and joined by a diversity of inspiring students.'
