Biography

Dr Michael D’Angeli is Programme Manager, and Acting Head of Academic English, at the University of Oxford Language Centre. His background is in language-based studies in the Humanities. He holds post-graduate degrees from King’s College London, the University of Cambridge and St Andrews. In 2018, he completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford in the area of Philosophy of Language. Since joining the Language Centre in 2011, Dr D’Angeli has specialised in academic writing, designing and delivering courses that support students and academics in meeting the rigorous standards of submission and publication within their fields. He collaborates closely with departments and colleges across the University to assist students in developing the skills needed to succeed in their academic studies.

Research interests

  • EAP pedagogy, particularly strategies for supporting students in mastering discipline-specific academic discourse 

  • Exploring artificial intelligence as a tool in academic writing, examining its influence on research methodologies, argumentation, and the evolving approaches to academic research 

  • Philosophical hermeneutics, and the scholarship of Paul Ricoeur
