Thesis
The impact of civil war garrisons on the local communities of Staffordshire and Warwickshire, 1642-1651
Research abstract
The English Midlands during the British civil wars were a hotly contested and heavily garrisoned area of the country and my research will consider how communities in Staffordshire and Warwickshire reacted to and coped with the proximity of these garrisons. Understanding the civil wars from a community perspective is an emerging area of research and this project will extend my undergraduate interests where my dissertation built on the work of Dr. Clive Holmes to examine the issues of neutrality and allegiance in Lincolnshire during the first British civil war.
