Late submission of formative work
This guidance applies to late submission of formative work. This is work that does not carry credit and any marks allocated do not contribute to the final award.
Formative work provides opportunities for students to:
- Become accustomed to academic writing;
- Develop skills of good academic practice, such as referencing and editing;
- Receive personalised feedback on their work;
- Gain experience in the use of the online submission system;
- Experience working to a deadline.
Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
Award-bearing courses:
Where formative work is submitted
- Up to 14 days after the published or amended deadline (some students with disabilities may have an amended deadline), it will be accepted, but there is no guarantee that feedback or marks, where these are provided, will be returned before the deadline for any summative submission. Where applicable, students will be reminded that, had the work been a summative assessment, they would have incurred a marks deduction.
- More than 14 days after the published or amended deadline, it will not be marked.
Flexible Online Courses, Live Online Courses, OUSSA and in-person weekly classes:
- Formative work will not normally be accepted beyond the deadline. The only exception is where the Department has been made aware of a student disability and has agreed an extension on these grounds.
For work that does contribute to a final award or carries credit, please see the Late submission policy. The Late submission policy applies to all work that carries credit, whether or not the student is registered for credit.
