This day school explores the way in which psychotherapists approach aspects of the human condition, particularly around the area of attachment and loss.
Drawing on the work of Freud, Jung and Bowlby we will look at their ideas about the formation and maintenance of loving bonds and what happens when those bonds are disrupted.
Writers, also, explore this psychological phenomenon and seek to find resolution using metaphor, symbolism and cognition. They ask questions such as ‘What contributes towards loving attachments and how does it feel when these are flourishing and when they are threatened?”
Although a range of literature will be included, the day will mainly focus on poetry as it is more easily accessed in a day course. We will look at a range of poets from Shakespeare to Carol Ann Duffy. The day will be highly participative with plenty of opportunity to read literary works, reflect and ask questions.
