Introduction to English Grammar

Overview

This workshop offers an introduction to English grammar from the perspective of a current or aspiring teacher or learner of English.

It will start from basics, and will answer questions such as ‘what do we mean by grammar?’, ‘what exactly is a preposition/adverb/pronoun?’,‘ how are sentences constructed?’ and ‘how do we decide what is correct grammar?’.

The workshop will also have some relevance to people who are simply curious about what English grammar is and how it works. There will be opportunities at the end to ask questions.

(Please note that it will not set out to prescribe ‘correct’ grammatical usage, advise on how to write better, or give classes in English as a foreign language).
