Dates and structure
The summer residential sessions take place in July and August each year. The first session is just over five weeks, the second is four weeks. The provisional dates of the residential sessions for the course starting in 2021-22 are as follows:
2022: Thursday 7 July – Saturday 13 August
2023: Saturday 8 July - Saturday 5 August
The first summer residential session comprises a short orientation period, followed by three weeks of intensive classes, one week of revision/examinations and one further week for dissertation preparation (five weeks in total). The second residential session comprises three weeks of intensive classes followed by one week of revision and examinations (four weeks in total).
Unless you are coming with family/children, accommodation and meals during the residential sessions are provided at New College, one of Oxford’s largest and most beautiful colleges. This accommodation is offered to everyone regardless of college membership so that all students on the course can work and socialise together as a community while in Oxford. Please note that only college members are entitled to use the library and certain other facilities (e.g. the college’s social/sports facilities for postgraduate members).
Participants will have a single study bedroom in New College with private bathroom facilities. For a supplementary fee, students wishing to bring a partner may book a double room, subject to availability. Infants may reside with parents in a double room at New College but we regret that students with toddlers or older children will need to rent private accommodation in Oxford, as neither the University nor the colleges has family accommodation available on a short-term basis. A fee reduction is offered to students not residing in New College and suggestions for accommodation are provided.
